Three Tips That Will Instantly Change Your Instagram Feed

Ahh, social media. The space where over a billion people use everyday and so much content to make your head spin. It seems that today more than ever, Instagram plays a huge role in peoples’ lives. Whether for business or pleasure. If you are an avid Instagram user, you know that visually appealing pictures always do well on Instagram. Want in? Keep reading!

I’m here to give you a few tips on how to improve your Instagram game faster than you think but the overall tip is this: It’s all about your pictures. What is a pretty instagram feed without pictures that are high quality and creative??

Tip #1: You have Instagramable spots around you more than you think.

Sometimes, I feel like people have the idea that successful instagram bloggers “have enough money to go to the right places for a pretty picture” or live in a good area like downtown Chicago or New York that they have access to the best spots in the world. False. I live in the suburbs and sometimes when I’m driving I keep a lookout around the area and I found the prettiest spot from me about 15 minutes away.

How gorgeous is this blue Antique Shop?! I fell in love with it and knew I had to shoot here. The best part is, NOBODY has shot here either. That is another tip: Shooting at the same place people shoot at seems to be repetitive and not creative. Try finding a spot thats unique and different and keep an open mind. Is there a cute ice cream parlor around you that has pretty decor on the inside? Shoot there. Is there a pretty mural on the side of that restaurant near your house? Shoot there! I love antiques, thrifting, or any vintage items! Its my favorite. So I decided to check out the store.

I love how these turned out. It adds more to the eye and keeps the picture busy with me still being the focal point. I loved this antique store. See how it gives the picture more depth? It’s all about location, outfit, and poses too πŸ˜‰

Tip #2: Coordinate your pictures!

You found a great spot? Awesome! What makes a picture even better is the outfit you wear with it. Here’s an example:

This is actually in the same spot as the blue house. Perfect right? I saw this yellow door and just HAD to shoot here. First thing I thought about was what I was going to wear. I knew polka dots was a good idea with yellow. It’s such a cute spring look and has the perfect contrast with the yellow door and even the blue house. It’s pleasing to the eye and makes the picture 10x better! Throw on a pair of shoes and accessories that match and you’re good to go. PS: props are always a good idea too. At the ice cream parlor? Use ice cream in the picture. Get a cone with three different flavors (that are also different colors) and use it to your advantage for your picture (and to eat too!).

Tip #3: Edit Edit Edit

A lot of people hate editing but truthfully I love it. There is something about seeing the before and after pictures that excites me more than it should LOL. It transforms your picture and makes it look so much better. The two apps that I use to edit my pictures are: Afterlight and Facetune. I use Afterlight to completely edit my picture from lighting to filters and I use Facetune to do the last minute touches like more detail or if I have to smooth anything out. Heres my before and after picture.

Huge difference right? It makes your picture look more put together and it pops the right amount of color. There are so many other apps to use but these two are my favorite! They are so easy to use!

So lets recap: Keep an eye out and find a spot thats even remotely pretty. It’s all about what you wear and how to coordinate your shoot with your personal style. Than, edit edit edit! And have fun! That’s what it’s all about.
